Domain Name Purchase and Set-up

What is a domain name?
A domain name is your address on the web.

What types of domain names are there?
The domain suffixes differentiate between the various types of organizations on the web. For example, these are the primary generic TLDs (Top Level Domains):

.com - businesses and commercial enterprises
.net - network-related enterprises
.org - charitable or non-profit organizations
.biz - businesses and commercial enterprises
.info - unrestricted

Further to these there are country-specific Second Level Domains - (2LDs) like .com.au, .co.uk, .co.nz, etc. In some countries the use of the country code is permitted as a top level domain (e.g. civilization.ca in Canada for the Canadian Museum of Civilization).

Who can register a domain?
Any of the five primary top level domains can be registered by anyone. Other TLD suffixes are limited, e.g. "edu" or "edu.au" are used by educational organisations. Country-specific 2LDs usually require formal documentation from the authorities in that country to prove the right of ownership.

Why use us to purchase/set up your domain name?
Setting up your domain can be a complicated procedure (especially for Australian domain names). The advantage of using Webboy.net is that we know how to avoid the traps, and have relationships with the best agencies (cheapest and fully featured) to purchase from.

If you choose to do it yourself to save a little money, it almost always causes problems for us in delegating the domain to the correct place. Obviously, if it is already set up and working then there is no need to adjust it.

We will register the domain names in your name and you will own them, but we will have access as the domain administrator or technical contact (depending on the system) so that we can make any required adjustments.

Please note: Our domain acquisition services are only used in conjunction with designing your site or application. We don't do domain acquisition as a stand-alone service.

How much does it cost?

Here is a comparison if you do it yourself (in AUD, 123 prices will vary with exchange rate).
